Escalation in Graz
Police officers attacked by driver after accident
A police operation got out of hand after a rear-end collision in the Graz district of Andritz on Friday night. An intoxicated female driver attacked the officers and even bit a police officer on the forearm.
The incident occurred at a regulated intersection in the Andritz district of Graz on Friday night. A 30-year-old woman stopped her vehicle at a red light. A following driver (32) was unable to brake in time in her car and a collision occurred. The passenger (26) of the 32-year-old was slightly injured in the head.
Even before the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, there was probably an argument between the parties involved. The 30-year-old even kicked the 32-year-old's car. The police officers were able to calm the angry people down for the time being and conduct the initial investigation.
Official action escalated
However, the conflict escalated when an alcohol test revealed that the 32-year-old driver was drunk. Her co-driver repeatedly interfered in the official proceedings. The police officers had to constantly de-escalate the situation with the man from Graz. Suddenly the 32-year-old woman also behaved aggressively towards the police. This was followed by verbal abuse, loud expressions of opinion and finally damage to the police vehicle. When the woman tried to run onto the road, a police officer tried to stop her. He was then attacked by the woman.
The woman reacted to the arrest by biting him
In the meantime, several Graz police patrols arrived at the scene of the accident. Both the 32-year-old woman and her aggressive boyfriend had to be arrested. During the arrest, one police officer suffered a bite wound on his forearm. The injured officer had to go to hospital. The woman was taken to the police detention center in Graz.
