Set apartment on fire
Ex-Frankfurt professional released from rehab clinic
A new phase of life has begun for Martin Fenin. The former Bundesliga player, who struggled with alcohol and drug problems after his time in Frankfurt, has left rehab, as he announced on Instagram. The Czech now longs for a fresh start.
"March 28, 2024 is a normal date for many - for me personally, it's the start of a new chapter in my life," Fenin wrote on Instagram. "After three months, I'm leaving the rehab clinic in Červený Dvor. It's been my home since the beginning of the year."
Fenin was considered a top player in his Frankfurt days and also wore the Czech Republic's national team jersey 16 times. However, things went steadily downhill over the course of his career; in addition to reports of fights and alcohol excesses, he made negative headlines when he set fire to his own apartment.
"Would like to be a better role model"
Fenin, who ended his career in 2017, now wants to put all that behind him. "The stay in the clinic helped me to clear my head. My daughter is the most important person in the world to me and I want to be a better role model for her than I was before," explained the former striker in a picture showing him with his child. Fenin would particularly like to thank his former teammates Milan Baros and Tomas Ujfalusi, who helped him "to understand that it doesn't have to be a shame to seek professional help and stood by me the whole time."
