At the summit
Heated scene! Scuffle and four sending offs
The summit clash in the domestic Bundesliga between Sturm Graz and Red Bull Salzburg unleashed some emotions. In the final phase, some players and officials blew a fuse. There were heated scenes on the pitch and a total of four red cards.
The match between Salzburg and Sturm was an intense but fair duel at eye level for a long time. Salzburg took the lead shortly after the break with a goal from Mads Bidstrup and were able to hold on to it into stoppage time. Sturm pressed for the equalizer and the hectic pace increased.
Emotions finally boiled over after Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath was shown a yellow card in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Several players blew their fuses and a row broke out. Storm kicker Jan Gorenc Stankovic in particular could hardly be restrained.
Teammates and officials struggled to break up the brawlers. In the end, Sturm players Gorenc Stankovic and Dimitri Lavalée were shown red cards. The Belgian was sent off after a VAR check. Gourna-Douath was punished with a yellow-red card.
Schicker also sees red
After the final whistle, another chapter was added to the story when Sturm sporting director Andreas Schicker was also shown a red card. The penalty senate is expected to deal with the issue in the coming days.
