Problems in the countryside
Emergency service for animals only secured in Klagenfurt
The shortage of vets means that emergency services in Carinthia cannot be staffed. Only in the provincial capital have those responsible managed to find a solution.
The good news first: the veterinary emergency service in Klagenfurt will be in operation from April 1. "We now have an emergency service outside of surgery hours," says animal welfare officer and mayor Christian Scheider, pleased with the solution. The situation regarding the staffing of emergency services has been more than tense in recent years. From Monday to Friday (7 p.m. to 8 a.m.), a doctor will now be available from April 1 on 0800 20 16 16.
Shortage in other districts
In other districts, however, the problem has still not been solved. However, efforts are still being made to find a solution for this as well.
Weekend services
"At weekends and on public holidays, the veterinarians on duty in the districts are always listed on the homepage www.tierarzt-ktn.at," say the responsible persons. However, a look at the homepage on Friday afternoon showed empty districts. The "Krone" asked the Medical Association. "The homepage may not be sufficiently updated - there are certainly doctors on duty at weekends," it said.
