Salzburg’s balance sheet: 11.6 million nights booked
Salzburg recorded a successful winter season with a strong surge in bookings during the semester break. The province of Salzburg ranks second behind Tyrol.
Overnight stays in hotels, guesthouses and vacation apartments rose by 4.9 percent to 50.6 million across Austria. Despite the pandemic, this exceeds the 2018/19 period, but falls short of 2019/20. Salzburg secured second place behind Tyrol with 11.6 million booked nights (up 3 percent). Overnight stays there rose by 3.8% to 18.9 million.
The number of guest arrivals in Austria rose by almost 7 percent to 13.8 million, while bookings increased by 5.7 percent in February. In the second month of the year, foreign holidaymakers were the main contributors to tourism, accounting for the majority with 14.9 million nights booked - an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. The largest group were Germans with 6.4 million bookings, followed by the Dutch with 3 million overnight stays. Domestic holidaymakers booked 3.5 million nights, an increase of 2.3 percent.
