After the terrible incident at the weekend, in which a homeless man was set alight and suffered severe burns, the 65-year-old suspect has now been remanded in custody. He remained silent during initial questioning. Was it really "an accident"?

Following a fire on Lendplatz in Graz on Saturday night, in which a homeless man suffered severe burns, the suspect, a 65-year-old Russian, has now been remanded in custody in Graz-Jakomini prison. The victim, a 52-year-old Hungarian, is still in the intensive care unit of Graz University Hospital and will probably undergo another operation there in the coming days.

20 to 25 percent of the skin burnt
The Russian remained silent during his compulsory interrogation by the magistrate, said Christian Kroschl, spokesman for the Graz public prosecutor's office, on Tuesday. The suspect could be responsible for the 52-year-old homeless man catching fire on Saturday night. Both men are of no fixed abode. During initial questioning, the 65-year-old stated that he had started a fire but had not noticed the other man. The Hungarian suffered severe burns: 20 to 25 percent of his skin was affected by third-degree burns.
