Carinthia’s ski resorts put to the test by the financial police

The financial police carried out four main campaigns in Styrian and Carinthian ski resorts. The main focus was on hotels, restaurants and ski schools - and hundreds of complaints were filed. In addition, around 75,000 euros in tax debts were collected. 

In February and March, 76 financial police officers were deployed in the ski resorts of Turracherhöhe, Katschberg and Klippitztörl in Carinthia as well as Reiteralm and Lachtal in Styria during four special inspections. 216 businesses were checked and it turned out that almost every second one was not in compliance with the law.

113 charges were issued for illegal employment - ten of them for illegal employment of foreigners - and a further two for fraud involving unemployment benefits. In 42 cases, there were violations of the Working Hours Act and twelve charges were filed under the Wage and Social Dumping Act. A further 42 criminal offenses were identified in connection with the cash register obligation. In some businesses, the cash register systems had been manipulated, while others did not even have a cash register.

Of course, these checks benefit all taxpayers, but also the reputation of our business location.

In addition, a total of 74,936 euros in tax debts were recovered. All businesses affected must now expect to pay high fines. "Regular focus checks such as these are crucial to ensure fair competitive conditions, protect employees and ensure compliance with legal regulations," says Finance Minister Magnus Brunner.
