A dream come true
Touching! Goosebump moment for terminally ill coach
Former coach Sven-Göran Eriksson is terminally ill with cancer. At the invitation of Jürgen Klopp, the Swede was allowed to coach his favorite club, Liverpool FC, in the legends match against Ajax on Saturday.
In his illustrious career, Eriksson had managed world-famous clubs such as Manchester City, Benfica and AS Roma, but not his favorite club since childhood, as he recently confessed. But on Saturday, his big dream came true.
At Anfield Road, the 76-year-old coached the Liverpool legends (Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Rafael van der Vaart and many more) in a 4:2 win against Ajax. The terminally ill coach had already been warmly welcomed by the fans before the game - an absolute goosebump moment (video below).
"A wonderful day"
"It was always my dream to sit on the bench for Liverpool. Now it's happened, it was a wonderful day," beamed Eriksson. The proceeds from the match went to the "LFC Foundation".
