Austria Salzburg take advantage of Pinzgau slip-up
Second spring matchday in the Regionalliga West - joys and sorrows for the Salzburg teams. Austria rehabilitated itself after the defeat at the start, winning 3:1 against Schwaz, while FC Pinzgau suffered a setback in the title race. The Saalfelden side only managed a 3-3 draw in Imst.
There was a lot of talk at Austria after the weak start to the spring. On Saturday, the Violleten gave a good answer, celebrating a 3:1 win against Schwaz. Zottl put the Maxglans ahead, but the Tyroleans were able to equalize in the first half. However, Fötschl and Zia secured the deserved three-pointer after the changeover. "An extremely important win. We played well in the second half," said a beaming coach Christian Schaider.
Title rivals FC Pingau had less reason to celebrate. In Imst, the team from Saalfelden couldn't manage more than a 3-3 draw, but at least they showed morale. They were already 3-1 down at one point, but two goals from Teixeira at least allowed them to equalize.
Grünau convincing
Grünau recorded a hugely important victory. The Walser won 2:0 at Rankweil, while Bischofshofen lost 1:0 at Hohenems. The Vorarlberg side are now the first runners-up to league leaders Austria Salzburg.
