Maurizio Zandron misses out on the free skate at the World Championships in Montreal
Maurizio Zandron has missed out on the top 24 in the free skate at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal.
The 31-year-old scored 69.59 points in the short program on Thursday with a solid performance without any major mistakes, but that was only enough for 27th place out of 40 participants. The native Italian, who performed a triple Axel and a triple Rittberger, among others, was 3.64 points short of 24th place.
Zandron's best World Championship result remains 17th place two years ago in Montpellier. This means that of the Austrian athletes in Montreal, only Olga Mikutina has made it through to the free skate. This is scheduled for Friday (23:00 CET). In the men's event, defending champion Shoma Uno (107.72 points) and Yuma Kagiyama (106.35) took a double lead for Japan after the short program.
