Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) is currently attending the EU summit in Brussels. On Thursday afternoon, a little oopsala happened there: the Chancellor was hit in the face with a microphone during an interview. He was just about to talk about the important issues from an Austrian perspective.

However, he took the incident with humor, as can be seen in a video posted by journalist Maximilian Werner on the X platform. Nehammer looks surprised and laughs into the camera. The users on X were also amused by the little incident. "Sorry, it was my first day as a sound assistant," wrote one user, for example. "The sound assistant got off safely without a black eye," said another.

The content of the EU summit on Thursday and Friday will include the war in Ukraine, EU accession negotiations with Bosnia-Herzegovina and the war in the Middle East. The key question for Austria's government is whether the heads of state and government will give the green light for accession negotiations.

Nehammer also wants the European Council to more clearly condemn and name the rape of Israeli women by Hamas fighters. "It is now documented and proven that Hamas uses sexual violence against women. In my view, it must be possible to reflect this accordingly in the conclusions (of the EU summit; note)," the head of government stated. The war in the Middle East is likely to be one of the most difficult points of agreement.
