Unknown driver cuts off driving school car and drives off

What a shock for a 15-year-old learner driver. An unknown driver overtook the driving school car despite oncoming traffic, cut it off as it was moving back into the lane and caused a rear-end collision. The driving instructor was injured in the incident and the driver simply drove off.

An unknown driver was driving a small black car on the B 126 coming from Bad Leonfelden in the direction of Zwettl/Rodl at 5.10 p.m. on Tuesday. In the Hintermühle area in the municipality of Zwettl/Rodl, he overtook a driving school car driven by a 15-year-old learner driver from the Urfahr-Umgebung district despite oncoming traffic. His 56-year-old driving school instructor, also from the Urfahr-Umgebung district, was sitting in the passenger seat.

Rear-end collision unavoidable
The unknown driver cut across the driving school car when trying to get back into the lane, forcing the learner driver to brake sharply. Subsequently, a 57-year-old car driver from Linz following behind the driving school car hit the driving school car. The unknown driver of the small black car continued his journey without stopping.

The 56-year-old driving instructor was slightly injured by the collision and was taken to Linz University Hospital by ambulance after first aid. The damaged vehicles were towed away. The B 126 was impassable for approx. 1.5 hours while the accident was being investigated and the vehicles recovered.
