As is well known, the Russian attack on Ukraine has plunged many European countries into an energy crisis. They had to look for alternatives to cheap gas and oil imports from Russia. At the same time, prices rose to sky-high levels. However, according to the German government, these times are now over.

"We have worked through this crisis," said German Economics Minister Robert Habeck at an energy conference in Berlin on Tuesday. Germany still has to import 90 percent of its fossil fuels from abroad. However, imports are on a more secure basis. The aim is also to reduce this to up to 30 percent.

Prices back at pre-war levels
With the strong expansion of renewable energy sources, it should also be possible to meet the climate targets by 2030, the Green politician added. "The energy supply is secure in every respect." Gas storage facilities are full and prices are back to the level before the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022.

In the wake of the war and Western sanctions against Russia, Germany had to quickly replace missing Russian gas supplies, which had previously been very cheap, with liquefied gas from the USA and the Middle East, for example.
