Fire in the kitchen
Dog noticed fire and saved Styrian family
Huge luck for a couple from western Styria: The family's dog noticed a kitchen fire on Sunday night and alerted its owners.
At around 9 p.m., a 67-year-old woman in Wies (Deutschlandsberg district) wanted to prepare food in her kitchen, so she put some fat on the stove and switched it on. She then went into the living room to watch TV. She probably fell asleep in the process.
The dog must have noticed the smoke in the kitchen and alerted its owner. The Styrian woman was able to extinguish the fire herself and then informed her daughter-in-law, who alerted the emergency services. The Wernersdorf fire department only had to carry out additional safety work. The 67-year-old woman and her 70-year-old husband, who had already been asleep, were taken to Deutschlandsberg Regional Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The golden retriever remained unharmed. The damage to the kitchen is currently unknown.
