Odermatt loses successful coach: “What a shame!”
Marco Odermatt is losing his successful coach: the skiing superstar from Switzerland and Austrian Kurt Kothbauer are going their separate ways!
In the 90s, Kurt Kothbauer looked after Hermann Maier, and for the past eight years, the fitness coach has been responsible for Marco Odermatt. And played a significant role in the 26-year-old's great successes. "I owe Kurti an enormous amount, his training methods are absolutely brilliant," Odermatt is quoted as saying by Blick.
"Marco needs new input"
But after the season is over. "From my point of view, I've gotten the best out of Marco. I wouldn't know how to make him even better. And that's why Marco needs new input from another coach," explains Kothbauer. Postscript: "And I will look for an athlete who I can really make better."
In addition to the globes for the overall World Cup and giant slalom, which he has won for the third time in a row, the season dominator can win two more at the final in Saalbach. He is more or less clearly ahead in the downhill and super-G before the final races.
Odermatt can understand the decision
However, the separation from Kothbauer is a matter of concern to him. "It's a real shame because Kurti and I worked perfectly together. But after working together for almost eight years, I can also understand very well that Kurti is looking for a new challenge," says Odermatt.
