Bayer Leverkusen continue their unstoppable march towards the first championship title in the club's history in the German Bundesliga. Coach Xavi Alonso's team won 3:2 in Freiburg on Sunday and are now ten points ahead of defending champions Bayern Munich with eight rounds to go. The Werkself had never before managed 22 wins in a season in its history.
Leverkusen also remained unbeaten in their 38th competitive match of the season. The goals for the league leaders were scored by Florian Wirtz to make it 1:0 (2'), Adam Hlozek to make it 2:1 (40') and Patrik Schick to make it 3:1 (53'). Freiburg were able to equalize in the meantime through Ritsu Doan (10).
Philipp Lienhart and Michael Gregoritsch were substituted for the home side after just over an hour. However, Freiburg were unable to do more than make it 2:3 through Yannik Keitel (79').
