State reacts:
Measures against the dying inns in the Ländle
In Vorarlberg, too, fewer and fewer inns are being run - the state no longer wants to stand by and watch, but wants to take countermeasures together with the Chamber of Commerce.
It is a phenomenon that has been noticeable throughout Austria for several years, unfortunately also in Vorarlberg: more and more innkeepers are closing their establishments and the population, especially in rural areas, no longer has the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat. This means that several functions of the inn are no longer available: social interaction, social cohesion and, of course, the care of physical well-being.
The state of Vorarlberg, together with the Chamber of Commerce, is now trying to counteract this trend, as the number of inns in Vorarlberg has fallen from 180 to 143 since 2013. Provincial councillor Christian Gantner (ÖVP) and catering industry group chairman Mike P. Pansi want to draw up an action plan in two steps.
Survey of restaurateurs
Firstly, the existing instruments and possibilities for supporting catering businesses will be analyzed, and finally a survey of local restaurateurs will provide further insights. The package of measures "Unser Dorfwirt - Wirtshauspakt für Vorarlberg" is to be presented before the summer.
