Danes remain tough! End for “Super League”

A setback for a possible future European soccer Super League: the planned Super League will not be able to operate under this name as a trademark in the European Union - Denmark's top flight of soccer is standing in the way! 

According to the Danish Superligaen, the EU trademark authority has determined that registration under the name Super League would constitute a trademark infringement.

The European Super League Company S.L. had previously attempted to register this name in the EU.

Trademark jointly owned by the Danish clubs
League boss Claus Thomsen explained that they were pleased with the decision that the EU authorities had agreed that such a name registration would infringe the rights and values of the Danish league.

The Superligaen is a brand that is jointly owned by the Danish clubs. The initiators of the Super League project can appeal against the decision via the sports agency A22.
