Car crashed into a wall: driver died instantly

On Tuesday evening, an 82-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency on a Styrian country road and crashed his car into a stone wall. The driver died on the spot. The 75-year-old wife, who was traveling with him, was injured to an indeterminate degree in the accident.

At around 4.50 p.m., the 82-year-old from the district of Weiz was driving his vehicle downhill on the L 320 from the Teichalm (district of Weiz). His 75-year-old wife was riding in the passenger seat. Suddenly, the 82-year-old suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his car. He crashed the vehicle head-on into a stone wall on a bend.

Resuscitation unsuccessful
Following drivers rescued the casualty from the vehicle and immediately began resuscitation measures and treating the passenger. The first responders also started the rescue chain.

The emergency doctor was only able to determine that the 82-year-old had died. The 75-year-old wife of the driver was taken to Graz Regional Hospital by the ÖRK with injuries of indeterminate severity.

The totally damaged vehicle was removed from the scene of the accident by a towing company and the L 320 was closed to all traffic from 4.50 pm to 5.50 pm.

The Fladnitz an der Teichalm and St. Kathrein am Offenegg volunteer fire departments were at the scene of the accident with a total of 15 personnel and 3 vehicles.
