European Championship probably without ÖFB star
Alaba? “Don’t think he’s taking the risk”
David Alaba has been working on his comeback since suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in December. His knee surgeon Dr. Christian Fink does not believe that his patient will take part in the European Championships, as the cruciate ligament needs at least six, but more likely nine months to regain its tear strength.
"These months after the sixth month are very important, as they reduce the risk of re-injury. There are biological limits and if you go below them, then you are consciously taking risks and I don't believe that a footballer who wants to play for many more years will take such a risk," explained the renowned knee surgeon on "Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar-7" on ServusTV.
Alaba was mentally "in a deep hole" at the beginning. "He started very hesitantly, then it got better and better," said Fink.
Schwarz helped Alaba
"It was also very important that David met Marco (editor's note: Marco Schwarz), because that was a very good fit at the time." The ÖSV athlete also suffered a cruciate ligament rupture almost seven weeks ago. Together, the rehab program was a lot easier.
