Farm building in Gralla burns down
The fire in a farm building in Gralla in southern Styria led to a major operation involving ten fire departments on Sunday evening. The property damage is likely to be enormous, but no people or animals were harmed. A barbecue left in the building is believed to have started the fire.
Ten fire departments were alerted to a farm building fire in Gralla (Leibnitz district) at around 7 pm on Sunday. When the firefighters arrived, the building was already fully engulfed in flames.
No casualties
The fire department was able to rescue a car from the burning building, but other vehicles and stored equipment went up in flames. According to the police, no people or animals were injured.
Road had to be closed
Due to the large-scale operation, the B 73 had to be closed and a detour set up. The fire was declared out at around 10 pm. The amount of material damage cannot yet be estimated.
On Monday afternoon, the result of the investigation into the cause of the fire was clear: the fire was probably started by a barbecue filled with hot charcoal. The residents had left it in the outbuilding. The wind may have caused sparks to fly.
