Rapid: Karweina is more than just a rumor

Yesterday's clash in Klagenfurt was explosive enough - but there was one man in particular who wasn't even on the pitch. Klagenfurt's currently injured goalscorer Sinan Karweina became the focus of attention, as Rapid suddenly became the dominant topic in the run-up to the game and with a view to next season - and probably not entirely coincidentally just 48 hours before kick-off.

Those involved didn't let too much slip, but did let it be known that it was more than just a rumor: "I will neither confirm nor deny this, there are many interesting players on the market," said Rapid's sporting director Markus Katzer, but also said: "Karweina has 17 scorer points so far this season and is available on a free transfer in the summer. We weren't the only ones to take that on board."

Karweina himself was visibly uncomfortable with the subject: "You're asking the wrong person," said the striker in an initial reaction on Sky, but also admitted: "The timing of this news surprised me. I wasn't surprised that Rapid are also looking around. But no decision has been made yet, my first point of contact remains Klagenfurt."
