With 697 participants, more comrades than ever before put their knowledge to the test at this year's Lower Austrian radio proficiency badge in Tulln.

"The number of participants shows the growing enthusiasm for this competition," said the provincial fire service association. While 399 firefighters took part in the Lower Austrian radio proficiency badge in 2015, this year 697 comrades took part over two days at the fire department center in Tulln - more than ever before!

Six disciplines, 300 points
The participants were able to demonstrate their expertise and professionalism in six challenging disciplines. They had to carry out various activities with the digital radio, write and send radio calls based on tasks and transmit a route by radio. They were also deployed as radio operators in a fictitious operations control center.

In the fifth task, the firefighters had to correctly and clearly transmit a situation report based on a given scenario. Their knowledge was also tested in a written test.

A maximum of 50 points were awarded for each discipline. To obtain the coveted badge, you need at least 200 points - and no fewer than 30 points per task.

Alexander Fink from the Kirchberg an der Pielach fire brigade in the St. Pölten district put in the best performance. Like some of his comrades, he scored full points and was also the fastest to complete all tasks with 38 time points.
