Thefts: Handcuffs clicked after 1.5 years

A Lithuanian man who allegedly broke into stores in Austria several times and stole valuable laptops was arrested a year and a half after the manhunt began.

In September 2022, an expensive laptop was stolen from an electronics store in Liezen. The police investigated intensively and came across a 50-year-old man from Lithuania at the time. It quickly became clear that he had not only stolen once, but at least nine times in Austria. As a result, the public prosecutor's office in Leoben ordered the man's arrest. However, as he was not in the country, an alert was issued for him throughout Austria.

He was quiet for a long time. But in mid-February, the man was caught up in a routine driver and vehicle check. The officers recognized and arrested him. Although there are clear images from surveillance cameras of his coups, he has only confessed to attempted thefts in Upper Austria. He will be charged and will remain in custody for the time being.
