Problem referees again
“Decisions that stink to high heaven!”
Two refereeing blunders at the 0:1 in Tirol could spoil Hartberg's chances of making it into the championship group. "There were some decisions that stink to high heaven," says chairman Erich Korherr. Referee columnist Rene Eisner agrees. The grand finale will now take place against Sturm on Sunday (17) in Hartberg.
A lot of pressure, a constant workload, long-term planning often difficult. All understandable arguments from players, coaches and officials against the mode with the league division after 22 rounds. But thanks to the (artificial) tension in the battle for the top spot, the league is booming. However, it has never been this dramatic: Hartberg only made it into the top 6 with 29 points in 2020, otherwise 30 points were always enough. This time, 33 points could even be too few - the current four-way battle for three places leaves nobody cold. Hartberg's big wish for the thriller final? "The best referees and the best VAR, so that everything is fair," says Erich Korherr, after the "whistle men" once again had a bad day in the 0:1 in Tyrol. As so often this season.
Two wrong decisions that could cost the East Styrians the championship group. "We don't need VAR for that, there have been decisions recently that stink to high heaven," the TSV boss rightly said. The fact that the VAR was occupied by the Viennese Josef Spurny also left Hartberg shaking their heads. "We have it in our own hands-that's positive," says Markus Schopp, looking on the bright side despite the VAR disaster.
"A monster task"
"We'll do everything we can to make it into the top six. But the fact that TSV even have a chance of making it into the championship group is not something to be taken for granted," said the coach, trying to take the pressure off. With a draw against Sturm, Hartberg would definitely be "up there" - Korherr: "A monster task! But with the fans behind us, something is always possible."
THE SCENARIOS FOR THE TOP 6
AUSTRIA KLAGENFURT will be in the top 6 if they score against Rapid. If they lose, if Austria do not win. If Austria wins, Hartberg must lose.
HARTBERG is in the championship group if they score against Sturm. In case of a defeat only if Austria does not win. If Austria wins, then only if Klagenfurt scores against Rapid.
RAPID stays "on top" if they score in Klagenfurt. Austria cannot win against Tirol if they lose.
AUSTRIA WIEN needs a win against Tirol AND a win at Klagenfurt-Rapid to reach the top 6.
Internal table in case of equal points: Option A, direct duels of the three teams with 33 points: 1. Hartberg (9 points, 5:4 goals), 2. Rapid (4, 3:2), 3. Austria Wien (4, 4:6). Option B, direct duel between the three teams with 33 points: 1. Klagenfurt (6 points, 8:5), 2. Austria Vienna (5, 8:7), 3. Hartberg (4, 4:8). Option C, direct duel between two teams with 33 points: 1. Rapid, 2. Austria Wien-Hütteldorfer (0-0 away, 3-0 home) keep the upper hand. Variant D, direct duel between two teams with 33 points: 1. Austria Vienna, 2. Klagenfurt - direct duels ended 2:2, the goal difference would speak in favor of the Viennese.
However, if nothing is possible, Hartberg will have to hope for a draw between Klagenfurt and Rapid. In that case, Austria would be "bottom" even if they beat Tirol, as the two teams would be tied at three. Violett would be last behind Hartberg and Rapid.
The red card against Hartberg's Dominik Frieser in Tirol made the East Styrians red in the face. And quite rightly so! Frieser can do little or nothing about the fact that he hits his opponent in the face, who rather endangers himself. He only grazes him, doesn't even see him. Of course, it's a painful, unfortunate story for the Wattener - but I don't see anything about a kick or malicious foul in this scene. Frieser doesn't go into the air with his studs first, wants to take the ball. That was an accident, not a red!
Even more annoying from the Styrians' point of view was the penalty after Donis Avdijaj was brought down. Referee Ebner justified himself after the match by saying that the Wattens player had played the ball. But that alone is not enough when it is followed by a kick against the man! Clear penalty for Hartberg!
Of course, people are now most upset about the appointment of the Viennese referees Spurny as VAR and Andreas Heidenreich as assistant. In my opinion, this should at least be strongly questioned! When I was active, there were long meetings in the run-up to such final rounds in order to avoid such "critical" appointments, where a Viennese referee is assigned to a competitor of Rapid or Austria, for example. It can't be down to the number of referees. How else can you explain the recent departure of Dieter Muckenhammer, an experienced VAR, through the back door?
