2:5 away defeat
VSV missed the play-off start completely
Disastrous start for Villach! VSV lost 2:5 in Bolzano in the first game of the quarter-finals . .
What a false start to the quarter-finals! Although the Eagles had traveled to Bolzano the day before, they completely overslept the first two periods. The South Tyroleans clearly dominated the game. After just three minutes, keeper Lamoureux made an extreme save from a Brunner shot. Bolzano tested the Villach keeper almost every minute - but in minute 15 the time had finally come: Frigo passed to Mantenuto, who was completely free in front of goal and put the puck beautifully into the crossbar. Seven seconds before the end of the first period, it struck again. A Frank shot just past the blue line is deflected unstoppably - 0:2.
VSV harmless in front
The VSV offense? Harmless! Not much changed in the rest of the game either. Bolzano turned up the heat and VSV looked on. At 0:3 (29'), Lamoureux also cut an unfortunate figure. He slipped behind the goal and by the time he was back, Frank had deflected a shot. The South Tyroleans did not stop there: Miglioranzi added the fourth from the blue (31st).
The Eagles couldn't play any worse
Desjardins in the powerplay (45.) and MacPherson (57.) then at least managed to correct the result for the Eagles - 2:4. The final point was scored again by Bolzano through McClure - 2:5 (60.) into the empty net. The positive: VSV can't play any worse, it hasn't had much to do with a play-off so far, more like a preparation game...
