In Sierra Nevada:
End of the line in the quarter-finals for ÖSV snowboarders
Austria's snowboard crossers did not make it to the top in the first of two World Cups in Sierra Nevada. Olympic champion Alessandro Hämmerle and world champion Jakob Dusek were the last ÖSV representatives to fail in the same quarter-final heat.
They finished 15th and 10th in windy and foggy conditions. 19-year-old German Leon Ulbricht surprisingly beat World Cup leader Eliot Grondin from Canada in a photo finish in the final and celebrated his maiden victory.
World Cup runner-up Hämmerle missed a wave while leading his quarter-final run and then only finished fourth. The man from Vorarlberg (290 points) thus lost ground to Grondin (540). In the women's event, Great Britain's Charlotte Bankes won again, Pia Zerkhold was eliminated in the first knockout round in third place.
