This is how good neighborliness works: When a 72-year-old homeowner fell into a well shaft around four meters deep, the neighbor rushed to help and rescued the senior citizen from his predicament with a rope.

While carrying out maintenance work at his detached house in Ostermiething on Friday morning, the 72-year-old fell into a four to five meter deep well shaft. His partner noticed his disappearance and asked the neighbor for help.

Injured and taken to hospital
The neighbor not only set the rescue chain in motion but, according to the police, pulled the senior citizen out of the pit with a rope. By the time the four alerted fire departments arrived at the scene of the accident, the rescue had already been successful. The 72-year-old was treated on site by the emergency doctor and then taken to hospital in Braunau with undetermined injuries.
