Sandro Platzgummer becomes a “Galactic”

Tyrolean football icon Sandro Platzgummer terminated his contract with Raiders Tirol on Thursday - and hours later signed on with ELF rivals Frankfurt Galaxy. Nevertheless, no problem for the Innsbruck team - because they were always aware of the running back's plans.

Career has priority! Sandro Platzgummer, who had been with the New York Giants for three years before returning in 2023, therefore asked the Raiders to terminate his contract for this year - the Innsbruck European Football League club complied with his request. Even if it is a bitter loss for the Raiders Tirol.

"We would have liked to see him stay with us," explained general manager Ulz Däuber, "but we respect his decision." Just two hours later, the running back, who suffered a cruciate ligament rupture last season, signed with the Frankfurt Galaxy!

For me, it will be a special experience to work on my career as a doctor and play football at the highest level at the same time.

"Knowing, but not communicating"
A contradiction? Even a feint? "No," the Raiders clarify in a relaxed manner. "We knew it, but we didn't communicate it." Because the 26-year-old from Innsbruck wants to devote more time to his training as a doctor and has been offered a great internship in Frankfurt. "We want to reach the final in the Veltins-Arena," Platzgummer already stated his big goal on the Galaxy homepage. The Raiders will probably have something against that on the pitch.
