Risk of measles
Infected person was a bathing guest at the Geinberg thermal spa
The district authority of Ried has reported that on the evening of February 13, an infected person who has since contracted measles visited the Geinberg thermal spa in the Innviertel region. Due to the high infectiousness, other bathers may also have been infected.
The BH therefore advises people who do not have immunity from two measles-mumps-rubella vaccinations or who have had measles to monitor their state of health. If signs of illness such as high fever, dry cough, rhinitis, conjunctivitis and inflammation of the nasopharynx occur by March 5, the district authority of Ried/Innkreis should be called immediately.
More than 300,000 cases worldwide
The World Health Organization (WHO) sounded the alarm this week due to the sharp rise in measles infections: last year, more than 306,000 measles cases were reported worldwide, as the WHO announced in Geneva on Tuesday. According to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), there have been 129 confirmed cases of measles in Austria since the beginning of the year as of February 21. In 2023, 186 infections had been registered.
