Freighter carrying humanitarian aid attacked

According to US reports, the militant Houthi militia in Yemen has fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles at the Greek-flagged US container ship Sea Champion. One of the missiles exploded near the ship and caused minor damage, according to the US Central Command.

The freighter was on its way to Aden in Yemen with humanitarian aid supplies. According to a person familiar with the matter at the port of Aden, the attack was an accident.

Another port employee in Hodeidah, who also did not wish to be named, said that the Houthis had said that the attack was not intentional.

Representatives of the Houthis have not yet commented on the incident. According to the US Central Command, the Sea Champion has delivered humanitarian aid to Yemen eleven times in the past five years.
