Fell into hotel pool
Wet socks led to alleged burglar
Police were looking for a burglar in Zell am See (Salzburg) on Sunday because of a smashed window in a hotel. Traces that led to the alleged perpetrator: Wet underwear and socks. However, the man who was found was somewhere else and could no longer remember.
In Zell am See, a lodging reported an alleged break-in on Sunday morning. Someone had tampered with two windows, almost pried one of them open and smashed another. The officers also found wet socks and wet underwear. The police were able to locate a 37-year-old British man who was spending his skiing vacation in Zell am See. However, he was staying in different accommodation.
Questioning revealed that he could no longer remember the previous evening - he had drunk too much alcohol. He only knew that he had woken up naked in his hotel room at around five o'clock in the morning. According to the police, he must have jumped or fallen into the outdoor pools of the hotel where he was not staying. Apparently he then tampered with the window because he wanted to get into the room while drunk. The wet items of clothing could be "clearly" attributed to him. It is unclear how much damage was caused. However, the British man will pay for it in full.
