Apprentices in hospital
Unusual gas leak at company in Stans
This kind of gas leak doesn't happen every day. In any case, defective lighters caused a company in Stans in the Lower Inn Valley (Tyrol) to be evacuated.
At around 1.30 pm on Thursday, two apprentices were busy repacking several pallets of lighters at the company for return transportation. After some time, the two locals complained of dizziness and nausea. The suspected cause: gas had apparently escaped from some of the lighters.
No elevated levels
The apprentices raised the alarm and the company building was evacuated. The emergency services were notified and treated the 17-year-olds on site. Several fire departments in the area then took measurements, but did not detect any elevated levels. At around 1.50 pm, the Florianis gave the all-clear.
The pallets in question were taken outside and disposed of properly. The two apprentices were taken to the hospital in Innsbruck for further medical clarification. The Stans, Schwaz and Jenbach fire departments, the Red Cross and the Schwaz police were deployed.
