Ukraine: Russia deployed “Zircon” missile
According to Ukraine, Russia has used a hypersonic "Zircon" missile for the first time. This is the preliminary result of an analysis of fragments from a missile attack on February 7, writes the head of the responsible research institute, Oleksandr Ruvin, on Telegram.
The "Zircon" has a range of 1000 kilometers and nine times the speed of sound.
Air defense almost unable to intercept "Zirkon"
This would make it more difficult for the Ukrainian air defense to intercept it. According to Ukrainian reports, at least five people were killed and parts of the power grid were damaged in the attack on February 7.
Russia itself had not commented on a suspected launch in the Ukraine war. In January, the Kremlin announced that the "Zirkon" had been successfully tested during a maneuver in the Atlantic using a computer simulation.
Missile can also carry nuclear warhead
The "Zirkon", which was only officially put into service at the beginning of January 2023, is also potentially capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
