For Ukrainians
AMS and German course obligation paid off
Families who were separated; women who brought their children and themselves to safety - the images after the outbreak of war in Ukraine have left a lasting impression on many people. In Austria, 17,235 displaced persons are currently active in the labor market. Upper Austria is playing a pioneering role here.
Around 48,000 people of working age who have been displaced from Ukraine are in Austria, 17,235 of whom are also employed, revealed Labor Minister Martin Kocher on Monday in Linz.
In this context, Kocher also referred to the exemplary role that Upper Austria has taken on. "The consistent course was the right one," emphasized Social and Integration State Councillor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer.
"We have implemented this"
Upper Austria provides comprehensive support for people from Ukraine, but also cuts basic welfare benefits if they do not attend German courses and are not registered with the AMS. "We have implemented this," says Hattmannsdorfer. 2820 Ukrainians are currently employed in Upper Austria.
13 job fairs in Upper Austria in the previous year
Last year, the Public Employment Service organized a total of 13 job fairs for Ukrainians in Upper Austria, with around 1500 participants and 100 companies taking part. "However, these are mainly pre-selection interviews," says Markus Litzlbauer, Deputy Managing Director of AMS Upper Austria, "it is difficult to say how many will actually start working for a company that was there."
