Car driver trapped in crash, seriously injured

Serious accident on Friday in Nassereith in the Tyrolean district of Imst! A car driver (20) crashed into the truck of a 60-year-old man. The rescue helicopter had to fly the 20-year-old to hospital.

The accident happened at around 7 am. The 20-year-old was driving his car on the B179 coming from the Fernpass in the direction of Nassereith. "In the area of the bypass tunnel, he drove into the oncoming lane in a long right-hand bend before the See-Eck tunnel," said the police. The oncoming driver of the articulated lorry tried to swerve to the left, but was unable to prevent the near-head-on collision.

Trapped in the vehicle
The 20-year-old was slightly trapped in the crash and suffered serious leg injuries. After first aid, he was flown by helicopter to Zams Hospital. Meanwhile, the 60-year-old driver of the truck suffered a minor injury to his chest. He was taken to Zams Hospital by ambulance. Both vehicles sustained serious damage. The scene of the accident had to be completely closed until 9 am.
