Skier (12) seriously injured in the head in a fall

A 12-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries in a skiing accident in Hochfügen in the Zillertal on Thursday. The member of a German school group had previously fallen over the edge of the piste.

The group of schoolchildren from Germany were skiing on black piste number 6 in the Hochfügen ski area at around midday on Thursday when the serious accident occurred. The 12-year-old German fell at the bottom of the piste through his own fault and went over the edge of the piste.

A doctor who happened to be present administered first aid
The pupil sustained serious head injuries despite wearing a ski helmet. His teacher set the rescue chain in motion. A doctor, who happened to be skiing at the time of the accident, administered first aid to the injured man until the piste rescue team and the emergency doctor arrived.

The injured man was then flown by helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck.
