Drones and missiles
Dead and injured in Russian airstrikes
The Russian military has attacked several Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles. At least two people were killed and others injured. Kiev's mayor Vitali Klitschko called on people to take shelter in bunkers.
According to Klitschko's account, the electricity in the capital was cut off after two high-voltage power lines were damaged by falling rocket debris. The heating supply on the left bank of the Dnipro was also affected. Emergency services extinguished fires, for example in an 18-storey residential building, as well as burning cars. A pregnant woman was also taken to hospital from the building, Klitschko announced.
Destruction in the south
Missile and drone attacks were also reported from Kharkiv in the east, Lviv in the west and Mykolaiv in the south. Mykolaiv's mayor, Olexander Senkevych, reported that one injured person had died of his injuries in hospital. Many buildings were destroyed, and water pipes and the gas network were also damaged.
The air defenses reportedly shot down around 20 Russian cruise missiles and several drones in Kiev and the surrounding area alone. The war in Ukraine has been going on for almost two years.
