One more fatality on Upper Austria's roads! Late on Saturday evening, a driver collided head-on with a concrete wall just before the Suben border crossing. Despite immediate resuscitation measures, the emergency doctor was only able to determine the death of the 56-year-old Croatian woman from Bavaria.

Vesna K. was driving a gray VW Golf on the A8 (Innkreisautobahn) towards her adopted home in Bavaria on Saturday evening. When the 56-year-old from Landau passed the border checkpoint near Suben at around 10.45 p.m., the car suddenly left the road for an unexplained reason.

The car collided head-on with a concrete wall in front of the border police control booths. The consequences were dramatic: the front end of the VW Golf was crushed beyond recognition and Vesna K. suffered fatal injuries.

No chance for the driver
Police officers and a Red Cross team tried to resuscitate the Croatian woman - but unfortunately to no avail. The emergency doctor could only determine that the 56-year-old had died.

Privacy screen set up
The Suben and St. Marienkirchen fire departments secured the scene of the accident and used tarpaulins to protect the victim and rescuers from prying eyes and cell phone footage during the resuscitation attempts. "Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common," emphasizes FF commander Johannes Duscher.

 No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The police are investigating.
