Accident in Styria
Automatically saved draft
A 43-year-old man was killed by a branch during forestry work in the municipality of Edelsbach (district of south-eastern Styria) on Friday.
Two of his friends, who had been working with him in the forest, alerted the emergency services, according to the provincial police headquarters. The emergency doctor was only able to determine that the man had died.
Man was not wearing a safety helmet
The man had felled a beech tree in the forest in Rohr an der Raab at 9.50 am together with two friends. He was operating a cable winch by remote control.
When the tree fell, a branch that had apparently become entangled in an adjacent tree broke off at a height of around 15 to 20 meters and fell to the ground. The 43-year-old, who was not wearing a safety helmet, was hit on the head by the branch, which weighed around 20 kilograms, and suffered fatal injuries.
There have been several fatal forestry accidents in Styria since the beginning of the year.
