‘Rocky’ star Carl Weathers died at the age of 76
The role of Apollo Creed in the first four "Rocky" films made Carl Weathers an international star - now the actor has died at the age of 76.
Weathers died "peacefully in his sleep", as his family confirmed to the magazine "Variety". "Carl was an extraordinary person who led an extraordinary life. Through his contributions in film, television, art and sports, he left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations."
Breakthrough as Apollo Creed
Before becoming an actor, Carl Weathers played professional football in the NFL. His breakthrough was the role of Apollo Creed in the first four "Rocky" films, but he also played alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator".
Weathers was then mainly seen in TV series, most recently playing Greef Karga in the Star Wars series "The Mandalorian". Carl Weathers married in 1973, but later divorced. He is survived by two children from this marriage.
