US President Donald Trump had actually decreed that trans women should be transferred to men's prisons. However, a US judge is opposing this - and has so far saved twelve trans women from this.

The US Constitution prohibits "cruel and unusual punishment", said Judge Royce Lamberth on Monday. It can be assumed that the women's prison is "the appropriate facility for those affected under the existing constitutional and statutory provisions".

Since his return to the White House, Trump has ended numerous programs aimed at promoting diversity and equality in government, the workplace and healthcare, as well as the rights of LGBTQ people. The acronym LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Transgender people are people who do not identify with their role as a man or woman as assigned by their biological sex characteristics.

Trump thundered: "Do not imprison men in women'sprisons"
 Specifically, Trump instructed the authorities, among other things, to ensure that "men are not imprisoned in women's prisons". Twelve transgender female prisoners then filed a lawsuit to prevent the government from implementing the order. One of the reasons they gave for this was their fear of losing their gender-specific medical treatment.

Federal Judge Lamberth then issued a temporary injunction to initially stop the transfer of three trans women to men's prisons - on Monday he extended this to nine more.
