Kriechmayr will not compete in the super-G in Kitzbühel

Vincent Kriechmayr will not be competing in the Super-G in Kitzbühel on Friday (today). 

The Upper Austrian, who suffered a pulled inner ligament in his right knee last week, has decided not to start after the warm-up.

This was announced briefly and concisely by the Austrian Ski Association in the morning. 

A comeback by Kriechmayr in Kitzbühel would have come "sooner than expected", ÖSV Alpine Director Herbert Mandl had emphasized the day before, even if there was nothing to prevent it from a medical point of view. "He had a consultation yesterday, there was no objection to trying skiing. Kriechmayr is a mature athlete, he works very hard. He knows exactly how to make tough decisions himself."

No downhill for "Vinc" either
Today the super-G is on the program, on Saturday (11.30 am) the traditional Hahnenkamm downhill will take place. Kriechmayr will also not be taking part in the downhill. This is because he would have had to complete one of the training runs during the week.

There was no major damage to his knee in the fall in the finish S of the Lauberhorn downhill, Kriechmayr was immediately busy with therapy and training afterwards. "It's important to me that there are no late effects or that a start at the World Championships could be jeopardized anywhere," said Mandl. Competing at the World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in two weeks' time is now the 33-year-old athlete's goal.
