Fixed! Provincial government puts Liezen flagship hospital on hold

A bang in Styria: the provincial government is making good on its announcement and putting the controversial Liezen flagship hospital on ice! The "Steirerkrone" has learned this from several sources. A Plan B is now being drawn up to put healthcare in the Enns, Paltental and Ausseerland regions on a new footing.

The new provincial governor, Mario Kunasek, is putting his money where his mouth is: this morning, the provincial government will decide to halt construction of the planned new hospital in Stainach-Pürgg. As already announced at the presentation of the government agreement, the provincial government now wants to develop an alternative concept. "This should focus on the expansion of the Rottenmann site and maintain the health locations of Schladming and Bad Aussee, including their further development to provide effective care," according to the FPÖ.

Rottenmann to be expanded
A project working group will now draw up a concept and present it by the end of the 2nd quarter of 2025. "Until then, all work on the project will be stopped," emphasizes the provincial leader, always a fierce critic of the multi-million euro construction. The most likely scenario is that Rottenmann Hospital will be expanded to become the central medical point of contact in the Liezen region.
