For the Eisbullen, absences at forward have long been part of everyday life in the ice hockey league. After Genoway and Stapelfeldt, Ljubljana were without another defenseman in the form of Murphy (injured), so young Hörl stepped in alongside Robertson. And Salzburg had their hands full right from the start to tame the Laibach dragon 2:1 in the end.

After an intense, heated encounter, in which ice bull Lewington had a fight with Atwal, goalkeeper Tolvanen was a great support for his team and also had an ally in the goal net. The home side were able to respond to Schneider's lead with a 1:1 power play.

However, the Bulls struck again in the middle period - while shorthanded: Bourke stole the puck behind the Slovenian box, fed Thaler, who put a lot of pressure on the puck and slotted it in - 2:1.

The champions, who had recently lost 2:1 on penalties in Ljubljana, held on to this lead despite fierce Slovenian attacks. Coach Oliver David: "That was an excellent team performance. The Slovenians were aggressive, supported by a good crowd. But after Thaler's goal we played really strong and disciplined."

The Eisbullen brought a young VSV player to Salzburg: U20 team forward Florian Lanzinger (13 games for Kitzbühel) signed a two-year contract and will soon join the Juniors, who play in the Alps Hockey League today in Cortina and have to face Ritten on Sunday.

Canadian Adam Payerl (Ravensburg/DEL2), who left Salzburg a year ago, has now been granted German citizenship.
