13-year-old injures sister – seven-year-old dead

A seven-year-old girl has been killed by several stab wounds in Leipzig. According to initial findings by the police and the public prosecutor's office, the girl's 13-year-old sister is believed to have caused the injuries. 

The police were called to an apartment building in Leipzig's Kleinzschocher district on Friday evening. The 13-year-old had called the police emergency number herself.

The seven-year-old was found seriously injured, according to the police. The girl was taken to hospital, where she died shortly afterwards.

Stabbing weapon was recovered
According to previous findings, the seven-year-old's older sister inflicted the ultimately fatal injuries. According to the police, the 13-year-old is currently receiving psychological treatment in a specialist clinic.

The possible murder weapon has been seized, a police spokeswoman said on request. Traces had been discovered on it. The spokeswoman did not say what type of stabbing weapon was involved.

Parents were not at home
"The parents were not at home at the time of the incident, but were informed that evening," said a police spokeswoman. A crisis intervention team was present when the parents were informed. Such teams are supposed to support relatives of crime and accident victims in acute emergencies.

The task now is to clarify the background. The police and public prosecutor's office have begun investigating the exact course of events. The spokeswoman did not provide any further details about the fatal injuries.

According to the police, an autopsy of the body has been ordered. The spokeswoman did not say when this would be carried out or when the first results would be available.
