Boxing champion shot dead outside his mother’s house

Mylik Birdsong died on Sunday in Los Angeles after being shot several times with a pistol. According to the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department), the professional boxer was talking to his girlfriend outside his mother's house when several men from a passing SUV took aim at the 31-year-old and pulled the trigger.

Birdsong then fled the scene, but was pursued by two perpetrators, according to the report. Although passers-by rushed to the American's aid, the boxer later died in hospital with seven gunshot wounds to his upper body. The perpetrators are currently being searched for, the motive for the crime is still unclear. 

"A short time later I heard shots"
Birdsong's mother, who witnessed the incident, explained: "Every time he saw me, he gave me a kiss and told me that he loved me. He kissed me right outside the door and said, 'Mom, I'll see you again in a few days. I replied: 'Okay, baby.' A little while later, I heard gunshots."

At the time of his death, "King Mylik" was the World Boxing Foundation International Welterweight Champion. He recorded 15 wins (ten by knockout), one loss and one draw in his career.
