The German national soccer team started the Nations League and a new era with a 5:0 victory against Hungary. Jamal Musiala was involved in four of the five goals (one goal, three assists).

The DFB team, who had recently beaten Hungary 2-0 at the home European Championship in June but lost 1-0 in the last Nations League campaign, were able to rely on their young stars Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz in Düsseldorf. Musiala set up Niklas Füllkrug's 1:0 (27'), scored the 2:0 himself after Wirtz's through pass (58') and was credited with the assist for Wirtz's 3:0 (66'). The 20-year-old Aleksandar Pavlovic (77) also scored the 4:0. The final goal was scored by Kai Havertz (81st penalty).

Group opponents the Netherlands also managed a clear victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina in League A with a 5:2 win. The DFB team is aiming for first place, and the duels with Oranje are likely to be decisive. On Tuesday, two opening winners will face each other in Amsterdam.

However, after Edin Dzeko reduced the deficit to 2:3 for the visitors, who were joined by Bundesliga defenders Amar Dedic (Salzburg) and Jusuf Gazibegovic (Sturm), the playful Dutch suddenly found themselves in the doldrums. Wout Weghorst (88') and Xavi Simons (92') secured the win.
