Police catch burglars in the act

Police officers in Eastern Styria were able to thwart a burglary at a jewelry store on Thursday night: A Romanian gang had apparently already tampered with the alarm system - but before they could strike, the handcuffs clicked. 

It is probably thanks to chance, but also to the attentiveness of a police patrol, that a break-in at a jewelry store in Friedberg in Eastern Styria was prevented. 

At around two o'clock on Thursday night, a patrol noticed several people in the vicinity of the jewelry store who gave the impression of being suspicious. When the officers tried to check the suspects, they fled in different directions. 

Alarm system tampered with using PU foam
A manhunt was launched immediately and two men (47 and 52 years old) and a woman (33) from Romania were soon arrested. The fourth suspect (54) was initially still on the run, but was arrested a few hours later in Lower Austria.

As it turned out, the perpetrators had apparently already disabled the alarm system of the jewelry store in Friedberg with PU foam.

The suspects were taken to Graz-Jakomini prison. The police are investigating whether the gang may have already struck at other crime scenes.
