Too much wrong! Austria shoots sharply against VAR

In the discussion about the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Vienna's Austria is in favor of "measures for a positive development"! These are necessary "to ensure a fair assessment of all teams and players", the Bundesliga club wrote in a statement. This was preceded by a controversial situation in the previous round when Vienna drew 1-1 in Altach.

The fact that the VAR did not intervene after a handball by Altach's Mike Bähre in the penalty area, which was obvious to many experts, was subsequently justified by the fact that the VAR did not have any clear, conclusive images.

This justification is not enough for Austria. The favorites also cited a situation in the match between Austria Klagenfurt and Blau-Weiß Linz, when there was no on-field review after a red card against a BW defender. A wrong decision, as it was called days later in the VAR review commissioned by the ÖFB and Bundesliga.

"There are still too many wrong decisions!"
Austria noted that the VAR should fundamentally help the referees on the pitch when wrong decisions are made. "Unfortunately, this is still too often not the case, there are still too many wrong decisions that are incomprehensible neither for players and officials nor for fans and sometimes have decisive consequences for the game," said the Viennese.
